AL603 Phonological Analysis [3 credits].

      • Study the principles and methods of analyzing linguistic sound systems.

AL605 Grammatical Analysis [3 credits].

      • Study the principles and methods of analyzing grammatical structures.

AL608 Sociolinguistics [3 credits].

      • Study the structure and use of language in its social and cultural contexts with a focus on multilingual situations.

Research Methods Course

      • Each student must take at least one course with a research methods component that is approved by the student’s Program Advisor.

The core courses are prerequisites to many other courses. A Prerequisite Course refers to a course that a student must pass before enrolling in a more advanced course. When a course has a prerequisite, it means that a student must have certain knowledge to be successful in the course. An assessment exam with qualifying scores of a prerequisite is achieved by a final grade of A, B+, B, C+, or C.
